Printing & Shipping Update

Bewildered badgers, friends! We’re excited to say we’ve heard back from the printer and have timelines for the shipping process!
Printing
We’ve gotten our samples back from the printer and they look absolutely amazing! Take a peek in the photos below to see how everything turned out! Everything is now being printed!
Shipping
Now that we are further into the printing process, it’s time to talk about shipping. Our printer assures us that everything will be on a boat to us in October, and we’re already working with our shipper to ensure that a boat is ready when everything is printed. While we may still encounter delays due to the global shipping crisis, we expect to receive everything in November.
Once we receive the products, shipping will begin immediately to backers. Assuming everything proceeds according to plan, we will be sending everything out to backers so that packages arrive before the 2021 holidays.
As such, we will be locking down address changes on October 15th. If you need to update your address, please do so in Backerkit before October. After that, addresses will be locked down and your items will be shipped to the most recently added address in Backerkit.
Going Forward
We will continue to update you as we receive news from the printer and when we get shipping updates. Given this will take some time, you can expect to hear from us in October when everything will ship from the printer to us.

Rambunctious raccoons! We’ve been hard at work getting everything together and are excited to say we have an update for you on Travelers & Outsiders!
Travelers & Outsiders
We are delighted to bring you the final PDF of Travelers & Outsiders! Other than some minor edits, this will be the final text and layout for the supplement.
Now that the final is ready, we’re sending it off to the printer! We won’t have any information on printer estimates for a bit, but as soon as we do we’ll keep you updated!
If you have any last minute feedback on Travelers & Outsiders before we go to print with it, please email us at [email protected]! Time is of the essence, though as we’re sending it to the printer in the next few days!
Printing & Going Forward
By the end of this week, everything will be at the printer! We’re so excited to have wrapped up the project and thank you for all your enthusiasm, feedback, and engagement!
We won’t have any updates about printing timelines for a while. We expect to have more information at the end of August or in September. As soon as we have information, we will update you on what’s going on and when we can expect printed products.

Bodacious bunnies! We were so excited to show you the finished core book, we forgot to include the updated play materials! But wait! There’s also more!
Updated Play Materials
After incorporating all your final feedback, we’ve updated the GM screen and playbooks! These final playbooks include all you need for players to dive in, including all the playbooks from the Core Book, as well as final versions of all the playbooks from Travelers & Outsiders! We’re so sorry for any confusion around these final materials!
We’ve also added images and art to the GM screen so you can see it in all its glory. The final will be beautifully printed for use during your games!
Travelers & Outsiders Preview
And finally, for your review, we have a preview of the Travelers & Outsiders supplement! We’re so excited to show you a preview of the book that will provide rich new content for your Root: The RPG games.
The Travelers & Outsiders supplement adds four new factions to Root: The RPG: the Riverfolk Company, the Lizard Cult, the Corvid Conspiracy, and the Grand Duchy. These factions come with an expanded history of the Woodlands, as well as instructions for including them in your game. In addition, the book contains ten new playbooks—The Pirate, The Exile, The Raider, and more—alongside new GM advice for running long-term campaigns.
Travelers & Outsiders also includes:
- New weapon moves, reputation moves, roguish feats, drives, natures and connections
- Rules for adding species moves and abilities
- New equipment, including roughly 50 new equipment tags
- Expanded faction mechanics, including a new faction phase
- New clearings featuring the new factions
Like our other previews, this book isn’t finished—we’re sending you all the expanded history, new playbooks, and the full chapter of the GM advice. We’ll send along the rest of the book soon! In addition, we’ll be making minor edits—including correcting all the “page XX” placeholders and adding the credits and index—as we get the final book ready for print! We hope you enjoy it!

Ebullient eagles! It’s that time of the month again! Let’s talk about where we are at with Root: The RPG! It’s been a busy month and we have a bunch of materials for you. So strap in and get ready for some amazing adventures in the Woodland...
Final Core Book and Clearing Booklet
The final core book PDF is finished! This version of the book is complete with the last edits, page references, index, table of contents, and everything else that was missing from the preview! We’re so excited for you to see the final product!
The clearing booklet is also complete! The booklet, a collection of clearings for use in any game of Root: The RPG, contains four new clearings, each exploring the various factions and their problems in the world of Root. Each clearing includes a core conflict as well as various other issues the vagabonds can get involved in as they learn the local politics. There are also locations, NPCs, special rules, and special moves for each clearing.
Both the core book and the clearing booklet have been approved for print by Leder Games and are headed to the printer! We don’t have a timeline yet for when all the materials will be shipping, but as soon as the printer gives us one, we’ll let you know!

GM Screen
The GM screen, which includes beautiful art and all the information you need to run your games smoothly, is also complete! The GM screen includes reference material for moves, roguish feats, and weapon skills. It also has tools for building NPCs and items, as well as all of the material for running the game, including GM moves, agendas, and principles!
We’re sending this file off to approval now, but we wanted you all to see it right away! As always, please send any feedback about the GM screen to [email protected].
Campaign Keeper
We’re also thrilled to announce that the beta for our new Root: The RPG Campaign Keeper is now available! Our developer, Kyle Kemp, has been hard at work creating a new web application that allows you to create characters, build clearings, and manage your whole campaign from a mobile and desktop friendly web interface. You can find it here:

The system is still in beta, so you may encounter some hiccups. Here are the known issues:
- expansion factions don't yet generate with clearings
- can't change chosen factions in campaign once a character joins
- no way to recover passwords
- play materials and playbooks need updating to final materials (correcting typos)
We’re going to be implementing these improvements and others before the site goes fully live later this year, but we’d love for you all to try it out and let us know what you think. Is this a useful tool? How could we make it easier for you to use it to run games? Let us know!

What’s Next
While we’re thrilled to be done with the core book and clearing booklet, we know you have questions about what’s still to come! Here are the updates on those final pieces!
Travelers & Outsiders
We are working hard at getting the last bits of layout done on Travelers & Outsiders. We still expect to send the book to print in June, but we need just a bit more time to finalize the material for you all to preview. Look for another update from us in mid-June with the book preview.
Refunds & Preorders
As the core book and several other products are digitally delivered, we are no longer offering refunds for Root: The RPG. If you have any issues, please email us at [email protected].
Preorders are also no longer available. If you’d like to pick up the PDF,, we will offer the PDF via DrivethruRPG after we have delivered all the PDFs to backers; physical products will be available via retail and our webstore later this year.
Updated Timeline
As we’ve mentioned, multiple products are off to the printer with Travelers & Outsiders slated to go out next month (June). The decks, maps, and other materials have already been sent to the printer, and we expect to send the GM screen shortly. Here is the current timeline for the remaining items:
- Root: The RPG Core Book: at printer
- Clearing Booklet: at printer
- Travelers & Outsiders: to printer in June
- GM Screen: to printer in June
Once we have updates from the printer on printing and shipping dates, we’ll be able to offer you firmer timelines on when the books will start shipping out. We will also be making the final PDFs for all three books available via DrivethruRPG once they are fully through print proofing. Please stay tuned for more on adding Root: The RPG to your DrivethruRPG library.

We are extremely excited to share with you the preview of the full core book! This preview has every chapter, including the GM chapter, a Woodland creation system, faction tools, and the Gelilah’s Grove clearing!

Travellers & Outsiders
We are excited to share the final playbooks for Travellers & Outsiders! The 10 playbooks are finished and ready to be added to your game! You will be able to access them in Backerkit, the same way you get access to the core book preview.
The four new playbooks are: Raconteur, Prince, Champion, and Heretic.
